Winemakers Dinner with Marchesi di Barolo
& Chef Morten Bang Olsen

Dear member,

We invite you to join us for an unforgettable evening of exquisite wines and culinary delights at our upcoming Winemakers Dinner on October 23, from 17:30 to 21:00 at Harsdorffs Hus.

Our distinguished guest for the evening is Beatrice Schiavio, the esteemed Brand Ambassador of Marchesi di Barolo, one of Italy’s most prestigious wineries. Situated in the heart of the Langhe, Marchesi di Barolo is renowned for its rich heritage and dedication to producing some of the finest Barolo wines, each reflecting the unique terroir of the region.

Complementing the wine selection, our "house chef" Morten Bang Olsen, with his prestigious background at AOC, Restaurant Babette, and No. 2, has meticulously crafted a four-course menu, designed to harmonize perfectly with the distinctive character of the Marchesi di Barolo wines. During the dinner there will be an opportunity to taste a minimum of two wines per course, including the iconic Cannubi Cru Storici and two Riserva wines from 2015. In total there are 11 wines on the tasting program.

The number of participants is limited to 30, and places will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis. Special offers will be available after the tasting.

Best regards,

Jonas Duus-Larsen

Marchesi di Barolo

A Legacy of Tradition, Terroir, and Timeless Winemaking

History

The legacy of Barolo wine traces back to 1807, originating from the union between the Marchesi of Barolo, Carlo Tancredi Falletti, and Juliette Colbert de Maulévrier, a French noblewoman accustomed to the finest French wines. After their marriage, Juliette, known as Giulia in Italy, recognized the unique potential of Barolo's terroir for cultivating Nebbiolo grapes. Under her direction, new wine cellars were constructed, and large oak casks were introduced, with five still in use today. She named this noble Nebbiolo wine "Barolo," linking it forever to its place of origin. Although the Falletti lineage ended with Giulia's death in 1864, her philanthropic spirit lives on through the Opera Pia Barolo foundation, funded in part by proceeds from Marchesi di Barolo wines.

Today

In 1929, the Abbona family took over the Marchesi di Barolo estate, with Pietro Abbona and his siblings bringing a renewed passion and dedication to winemaking.

Today, Marchesi di Barolo is still a family-run business, managed by Pietro’s great-grandson Ernesto Abbona and his wife Anna, alongside their children Valentina and Davide. The winery oversees approximately 430 hectares of vineyards across the Langhe region, including prestigious plots like the Cannubi cru. The Abbonas continue the long-standing tradition of producing exceptional Barolo wines, maintaining a balance between historical practices and modern innovation to honor the legacy of their ancestors.
